July 1 Happy Birthday Canada! Do you Know? Canada is the first country in the world to adopt a policy of multiculturalism, embracing diversity and pluralism. According to the Parliament of Canada’s Canadian Multiculturalism report, the country is home to people from over 250 ethnic origins. Around 6.2 per cent of the total Canadian population reported an Aboriginal identity and 22.3 per cent belong to a visible minority (2016 Census). The largest groups among these visible minorities come from Asia (including the Middle East), Africa and Europe. The largest individual source of immigrants is India, followed by China and the Philippines (2020 Annual Report to Parliament on Immigration). We are so thankful to be able to live in this wonderful multi-culture country. At TAIE, more than 30 countries’ students are gathering here to study. Our school is a great example of cultural diversity! Happy Canada Day to all TAIE students and staff, please enjoy this day and stay safe while you’re celebrating!
